Overview
Cielo is developed by Lucas Ribotta, operating as Nyxmar Studio (Argentina) (“Nyxmar”, “we”). It calculates the night sky on your phone. It has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking, and we do not receive any personal data from it.
This policy explains what Cielo stores on your device, which permissions it asks for, and the few network connections it makes.
Data stored on your device
Cielo keeps the following only on your phone. It is never sent to us, and we have no way to access it:
- Your logbook: the place and time of each night, what you looked at and for how long, and any notes you write.
- Birth details you enter in the Astral section (place, date and, optionally, time), used to calculate your chart and transits.
- Your preferences, such as compass calibration, narrator voice and whether the weather forecast is enabled.
- Cached data: the latest forecast, sky events and International Space Station orbit data.
- The narrator's language model, if you choose to download it.
Permissions
Every permission is optional. Without them Cielo still works, with less precision. You can change them at any time in the app settings or in your phone's settings.
- Location (approximate, only while the app is open): to calculate the sky as seen from where you are. Without it, Cielo uses a default location.
- Camera: to show the live view behind the sky map. Nothing is captured, recorded or stored.
- Motion sensors: to know where your phone is pointing. Readings are processed on the device.
- Notifications: local reminders about sky events, scheduled on the device. Cielo uses no push notification service.
Network connections
Cielo calculates the sky offline. It connects to the internet only in these cases:
- Weather forecast (optional, off by default): if you turn it on, your location rounded to one decimal place (about 11 km) is sent to Open-Meteo to get cloud cover. No account or identifier is sent.
- Space Station passes: orbit data is downloaded from CelesTrak. Your location is not sent; visibility is calculated on your phone.
- Narrator: the language model is downloaded from Hugging Face only when you choose to install it.
- App updates: when it opens, Cielo checks Expo's update service for fixes and improvements.
Third-party services
Like any internet connection, these requests reveal your IP address and basic technical details (such as device and operating system) to the service that receives them. They process that information under their own policies, which we do not control:
Sharing
If you choose to share a night, Cielo creates an image and opens your phone's share menu. You decide where it goes; Cielo sends nothing on its own.
Deleting your data
Because your data stays on your device, you control it. You can remove everything by clearing Cielo's data in your phone's settings or by uninstalling the app.
Children
Cielo is suitable for a general audience. We do not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will publish the new version on this page and update the “last updated” date.
